We are all students who are capable of creating. As a teaching artist, Shanna works with youth and adults to guide them through the creative process, grounded within the contexts of community and historical preservation. Shanna was appointed by the Mary & Eliza Freemen Center for History and Community as an Art Ambassador to highlight the local histories of Little Liberia on the South End of Bridgeport. Certified by the CT Center for Nonviolence, her teaching integrates Martin Luther King Jr.’s Six Principles of Nonviolence and encourages students to use their imagination and voice to express their perspective through art making.
